1. How do I book a public tennis court in Fukuoka City?
Fukuoka City
Fukuoka City’s park tennis courts are booked through the Fukuoka City Public Facility Reservation System (福岡市公共施設案内・予約システム, “Comnet”), or at the park’s management office. Tennis courts are among the facilities where one person can register alone, without a group. You can look up free slots on the website without logging in. You can also apply at the park’s management office instead of online.
At Seibu Sports Park (西部運動公園) in Nishi Ward, one court costs ¥800 per hour for adults and ¥400 for students. Hours are 9:00 to 19:00 from April to September and 9:00 to 17:00 from October to March. Fees and court numbers for other parks are in our Japanese guide to Fukuoka City tennis courts.
1.1 How to register and book
- Choose how to register. You can apply at a facility counter with a paper form, or online. Online needs a smartphone and a My Number Card, driver’s license or health insurance card for the identity check.
- For a paper form, get your bank to confirm the account first. Fees are paid by direct debit. The form works with Japan Post Bank, Fukuoka Bank and Nishi-Nippon City Bank. Then take it to the counter with photo ID (the city gives a driver’s license, health insurance card or My Number Card as examples).
- Wait for the registration notice. The city says it takes about 2 to 4 weeks. Online registrations also need approval by the facility, and you then add a bank account.
- Enter the lottery. For courts in a given month, apply between the 1st and the 14th of the month before. The draw is on the 15th.
- Confirm your win. Winners confirm the booking from the 16th to the 19th. Slots left over open first come, first served from the 20th or 21st, depending on the facility.
Note
The reservation website is in Japanese, and its home page has no language menu. Users under 18 who are students need a parent’s consent form.
For help with registration or the website, call the Fukuoka City Public Facility Reservation System Service Center (福岡市公共施設案内・予約システムサービスセンター) at 092-716-7373, 9:00 to 18:00 except December 29 to January 3. It does not take bookings. See the city’s page about the system.

4. What is HYROX, and where can I train for it?
Depends on the gym
HYROX is an indoor fitness race. You run 1 km, then do one workout station, and repeat this eight times, according to HYROX Japan. The stations are the SkiErg, sled push, sled pull, burpee broad jumps, rowing, farmers carry, sandbag lunges and wall balls. You can race alone (Open or Pro), in pairs (Doubles) or as a relay team of four.
