1. What happens at Subway Festa?
Fukuoka City Subway
Fukuoka City Subway (福岡市地下鉄) opens the Nanakuma Line’s Hashimoto Depot (橋本車両基地), which is normally closed to the public. You can walk through the workshop on two routes. Route B looks down from the third floor and ends with stairs, so people in high heels, with a stroller or in a wheelchair turn back before the stairs.
The subway also lists a market with bakeries and coffee shops from along the lines, a stage with a police band and an “Oshiri Tantei” character show, a mini Nanakuma Line train for children in elementary school or younger, working vehicles on display, goods for sale and a quiz rally. The event goes ahead in rain but is cancelled in a storm, with no second date; a cancellation is posted on the official page by 8:00 on October 25.
2. How do I apply for the free shuttle train?
Fukuoka City Subway
The shuttle runs 12 times between Hashimoto Station and the depot, one way only. It runs on a section above ground that you can only ride during the festa. The walk from Hashimoto Station is about 5 minutes, so you can skip the shuttle and still enter the event.
- Open the application form by October 1. It is on the Fukuoka City online application service: shuttle train application (Japanese).
- Apply for up to 5 people at once. You choose from the departures listed on the official page.
- Wait for a postcard in mid-October. Only winners get one. You may be given a different time from the one you asked for.
- Bring the postcard on the day. It is your boarding ticket. Show it at the shuttle check-in.
Important
The subway says it will not answer questions about the lottery results. The form is in Japanese; if you need help with a Japanese form, see Help in your language in Fukuoka City.
3. How do I get there?
Fukuoka City Subway
Take the Nanakuma Line to Hashimoto Station and walk 5 minutes. There is no parking at the venue, and the subway asks visitors to come by public transport. For fares and IC cards, see Getting around Fukuoka City. The official page does not say whether staff at the event can help in English.
