2. The five parks
Depends on the park
Several of these playgrounds are new. Ohisama Park opened on 22 December 2024, and its large composite play equipment has been in use since 8 September 2025. Fujiyama Health and Culture Park’s composite play equipment was renewed in November 2025. Takinomiya Park has been in a renewal project since fiscal 2019.
2.1 Matsuyama Sogo Park (松山総合公園), Matsuyama City
This general-purpose park of about 45 hectares has a lookout plaza, a cherry-tree hill, a camellia garden and a dog run. The city’s page says the lookout plaza was certified a “Japan Night View Heritage” site in August 2022. It also has the Happymaru Hill (はぴまるの丘), the Matsuyama City Animal Welfare Center, which opened in March 2024.
The play areas are Bocchan Dream Land (坊っちゃん夢ランド), with colorful equipment inspired by the Botchan steam train and a “Time Station”, and a doughnut-shaped “Old Western City”, and Chibikko Hiroba (ちびっこ広場), which has a roller slider and sits next to the cherry-viewing plaza. These details come from the park’s pamphlet.
| Car park | Spaces | Hours |
|---|---|---|
| No. 1 (entrance plaza) | 15 | 9:00–20:00 (until 21:00 Jul–Sep) |
| No. 2 | 66 | 9:00–17:00 (until 21:00 Jul–Sep) |
| No. 3 | 250 | 9:00–17:00 (until 21:00 Jul–Sep) |
| No. 4 | 94 | 9:00–17:00 |
The city may open the car parks earlier when traffic around the park is a problem. On the day of the Matsuyama Port Festival Mitsuhama Fireworks (松山港まつり 三津浜花火大会), car park No. 1 is closed all day and the roads into Nos. 2 and 3 close at 17:00. The dog run can use car parks 3 and 4, and No. 4 is nearer. The lookout tower and the management building can be entered 9:00–17:00 (9:00–21:00 from July to September).
Getting there: By car, enter from National Route 196 at the east entrance. By city bus, take line 10 (for Tsuda Danchi) to “Matsuyama Sogo Koen-mae” and walk 5 minutes to the east entrance. By train, it is a 15-minute walk from Kinuyama Station or Nishi-Kinuyama Station on the Iyotetsu Takahama Line to the north entrance (next to Myogenji temple).
