This page is general information from official sources. It is not medical advice and does not tell you how serious your child’s symptoms are. If you think your child’s life is in danger (for example, they are unconscious or struggling to breathe), call 119 for an ambulance now.
If your child gets a fever in the evening, or has stomach pain on a Sunday night when your usual clinic is closed, Hiroshima Prefecture has three kinds of help: a phone line for children’s symptoms, a 24-hour emergency advice line, and night clinics for children run by cities and medical associations. This page lists them for Hiroshima City, Fukuyama City, Kure City and Higashihiroshima City.
In short
- Not sure whether your child needs a doctor tonight? Call #8000 (weekdays 19:00–8:00; weekends, holidays and New Year 17:00–8:00). A nurse gives advice.
- Not sure whether to call an ambulance, or need a hospital that can see you now? Call #7119, 24 hours a day.
- In Hiroshima City, Funairi Citizens Hospital sees sick children 24 hours a day, every day (section 3).
- Fukuyama has a night pediatric clinic every evening, Kure has one until 23:00, and Higashihiroshima opens on set weeknights (sections 4 to 6).
- Bring your health insurance information (such as a My Number Card) and your child’s medical expense recipient card.

1. When should I call #8000?
Hiroshima Prefecture
Hiroshima Prefecture runs the Children’s Emergency Telephone Consultation (こどもの救急電話相談, kodomo no kyukyu denwa sodan), #8000. It is for the moment when your child gets sick at night and you cannot decide whether to see a doctor now or wait until morning. A nurse gives advice on whether your child needs to be seen and on care you can give at home. It is open weekdays 19:00 to 8:00, and from 17:00 on Saturdays, Sundays, holidays and December 29 to January 3.
- From a mobile phone or a push-button landline, dial #8000.
- From a dial-type landline, a Hikari Denwa or other IP phone, or a landline in Otake City, dial 082-555-8870.
When the call connects, the prefecture asks you to say your child’s age, sex, symptoms and where you live. It says the line gives advice and is not a diagnosis or treatment, and that calls are recorded. It is for urgent cases, not for long-term illness or general parenting questions. If symptoms are clearly serious, such as breathing or the heart stopping, call 119 instead.
2. When should I call #7119?
Hiroshima City and partner areas
The Emergency Consultation Center for the Hiroshima Region Urban Area and Bingo Region (救急相談センター広島広域都市圏・備後圏域) answers #7119 24 hours a day, every day. Nurses and other staff advise whether to call an ambulance or go to a hospital yourself, suggest a suitable department and hospital, and explain first aid. It can tell you which hospitals can see patients at that moment, but Hiroshima City asks you to phone the hospital before you go. If the center decides the case is urgent, it may transfer your call to 119 or ask you to call 119.
If #7119 does not connect, call 082-246-2000. It covers 22 cities and towns in Hiroshima Prefecture, plus Kasaoka and Ibara in Okayama Prefecture and Iwakuni and Waki in Yamaguchi Prefecture. Osakikamijima Town is not on the list. From the Okayama or Yamaguchi areas on a mobile phone, call 082-246-2000.
Can I search for an open clinic online?
Yes. The Medical Information Network for Hiroshima Prefecture (医療情報ネット, iryo joho netto), run by the national Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, lets you search for clinics open on holidays and at night by department. According to Hiroshima City, it has machine-translated English, Chinese and Korean, and you can search for hospitals that offer languages other than Japanese. The phone and fax guide service (0570-000-692) is Japanese only, according to Fukuyama City.
3. Hiroshima City: where can a sick child be seen at night?
Hiroshima City
Hiroshima City says that for children, Funairi Citizens Hospital provides emergency care 24 hours a day, every day, and Asa Citizens Hospital on Sunday nights. The city’s night emergency centers at Senda-machi and Kabe see internal medicine only for patients aged 15 or older.
3.1 Hiroshima City Funairi Citizens Hospital (24 hours)
Hiroshima City Funairi Citizens Hospital (広島市立舟入市民病院) sees children from newborns to junior high school students for illnesses such as fever or seizures, at any hour. It does not treat injuries from traffic accidents or falls (such as fractures and bruises) or burns. The hospital asks you not to call it for advice, because calls disrupt care; use #8000 or #7119 instead. Bring your My Number Card (or eligibility certificate) and your child’s medical expense recipient card.
Hiroshima City says Funairi is very crowded because so many patients go there, and the hospital says children may not be seen in order of arrival, depending on their condition. The hospital’s top page shows the current waiting time for pediatric emergencies; on weekends, holidays and weekday nights, it is updated every 3 hours when the wait is over 1 hour.
By tram, take a Hiroden Eba-bound tram and get off at Funairi-hommachi. The hospital has a 100-space parking lot, and parking is free for outpatients and the people with them; show your parking ticket at the payment counter. 14-11 Funairi Saiwai-cho, Naka-ku, Hiroshima City. Google Maps. Phone: 082-232-6195.
3.2 Asa Citizens Hospital (Sunday nights)
Hiroshima City North Medical Center Asa Citizens Hospital (広島市立北部医療センター安佐市民病院), in Asakita-ku, sees children for illnesses such as fever or seizures every Sunday from 18:00 to 22:00. Reception is 17:30 to 22:00. It is closed on August 6 and December 29 to January 3. You do not need to call first. Bring the patient card (if you have one), health insurance information, the recipient card and the medicine notebook (お薬手帳, okusuri techo), and go to the after-hours entrance of the Emergency and Critical Care Center.
The hospital’s video (in Japanese) shows the way from the main entrance to the after-hours entrance:
The west parking lot (70 spaces) is open 24 hours, including holidays. Parking is free for outpatients for up to 24 hours; show your ticket at the reception counter. 1-2-1 Kameyama-minami, Asakita-ku, Hiroshima City. Google Maps. Phone: 082-815-5211.
3.3 What about injuries at night?
Funairi does not treat injuries. The Hiroshima City Medical Association Senda-machi Night Emergency Center (広島市医師会千田町夜間急病センター) has orthopedics and surgery for injuries (けが), with reception 19:30 to 22:30. It is closed December 31 to January 3. Always call before you go; calls about injuries are taken from 19:30. The city’s page limits only internal medicine to patients aged 15 or older. 3-8-6 Senda-machi, Naka-ku, Hiroshima City. Google Maps. Phone: 082-504-9990.
3.4 Sundays and holidays during the day
On Sundays and holidays, Hiroshima City lists the doctors on duty (当番医, toban-i) for each day on its website, including pediatrics. Reception is 9:00 to 17:30, with a break from 13:00 to 14:00. The rota can change at short notice, and the city asks you to call ahead if your child has a fever or cough. The duty list is also in that day’s newspaper.
4. Fukuyama City: Fukuyama Night Pediatric Clinic
Fukuyama City
The Fukuyama Night Pediatric Clinic (福山夜間小児診療所), run by the Fukuyama Medical Association, is open every day of the year from 19:00 to 22:30. Reception closes at 22:15. It sees children from age 0 to 15 (up to the 3rd year of junior high school). The association asks that only one adult comes with the child.
The Fukuyama Night Adult Clinic (福山夜間成人診療所) is next door, open every day 19:30 to 23:00 (reception until 22:45). For surgery, Fukuyama City says to always call before going: 084-982-9946.
The clinic is on the west side of the 1st floor of the Fukuyama Medical Association building. By bus from Fukuyama Station, get off at Shinbashi (新橋) and walk 2 minutes north, or take the Mawarose Bus blue route to Sukoyaka Center-mae (すこやかセンター前). The association’s access map shows a multi-story parking garage at Sukoyaka Center. 2-11-25 Miyoshi-cho Minami, Fukuyama City. Google Maps. Phone: 084-922-4999.
5. Kure City: Kure Medical Association Pediatric Night Emergency Center
Kure City
In Kure City, children with mild symptoms at night are seen at the Kure Medical Association Pediatric Night Emergency Center (呉市医師会小児夜間救急センター), and children with serious conditions are seen by public hospital pediatric departments in turn. The center is open 19:00 to 23:00, with reception until 22:40. It is for sudden fever, diarrhea, vomiting and similar symptoms. It cannot treat injuries, and the medical association asks you to call first. Depending on the symptoms, it may refer you to the public hospital on duty.
From 22:40 to 8:30 the next morning, Chugoku Rosai Hospital (中国労災病院) and NHO Kure Medical Center (国立病院機構呉医療センター) take turns as a rule. To find out which one is on duty, call the center; after 23:00 the line plays a recorded message. On holidays and during the New Year period, the Kure Medical Association Holiday Emergency Center in the same building sees internal medicine, surgery and pediatrics from 9:00 to 18:00.
The medical association says payment is cash only, and you should have your My Number Card or the original eligibility certificate ready at reception; photos or copies are not accepted. When flu and other infections are spreading, the wait can be 3 to 4 hours.
The center is inside the Kure Medical Association Hospital, about 10 minutes by bus from JR Kure Station (Hiroden Bus, Kure Ishikai Byoin stop). 15-24 Asahi-machi, Kure City. Google Maps. Phone: 0823-32-1299.
6. Higashihiroshima City: Higashihiroshima Holiday Clinic
Higashihiroshima City
The Higashihiroshima Holiday Clinic (東広島市休日診療所) sees internal medicine and pediatrics on Sundays, holidays and December 30 to January 3, from 9:00 to 12:00 and 13:00 to 16:00. On about 20 weeknights a month (not fixed days), it opens for internal medicine or pediatrics from 19:00 (or 19:30) to 21:30. Which nights have pediatrics changes every month, so check the city’s monthly night and holiday duty list. Some local pediatric clinics also take night duty on the list.
The city asks you to call the clinic before you come. If your child has a fever, call when you arrive at the parking lot and follow the staff’s instructions. Bring your My Number Card used as health insurance and the recipient card. 1st floor, Higashihiroshima Health and Medical Center, 1113 Saijo-cho Doyomaru, Higashihiroshima City. Google Maps. Phone: 082-422-5400.

Before you go
- Call #8000 (child) or #7119 (ambulance or which hospital) first if you are not sure.
- Bring your health insurance information (My Number Card or eligibility certificate) and your child’s medical expense recipient card. Asa Citizens Hospital also asks for the medicine notebook.
