When you want to try Fukuoka home cooking one dish at a time, restaurants that list okyuto and gamé-ni as single à la carte plates are surprisingly hard to find. Kappo Yoshida Tenjin Main Store (割烹よし田 天神本店), in Tenjin, Chuo Ward, Fukuoka City, lists “Okyuto — ¥660” and “Gamé-ni — ¥660” on its official menu. Founded in 1963, the restaurant rebuilt as part of the Tenjin Big Bang redevelopment and reopened, on its original site in Tenjin 1-chome, on June 10, 2025.

1. Okyuto and gamé-ni, ¥660 each as single dishes
The official à la carte menu lists okyuto at ¥660 and gamé-ni at ¥660. Okyuto is a Fukuoka food made from seaweed; gamé-ni is a simmered dish that Japan’s Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries also introduces as a Fukuoka Prefecture regional dish, in its “Our Local Cuisine” project. The same page also lists mackerel with sesame sauce (¥1,650), house-made squid shiokara (¥770), sea bream skin and jellyfish with vinegar (¥770), nuta (¥880) and sardine mentaiko yaki (¥880) — a menu built so you can order a little of several Fukuoka ingredients at once. Sashimi includes filefish, live-prepared, from ¥3,850; mackerel, live-prepared, at ¥9,350; and squid, live-prepared, at market price. The official site describes a live fish tank on the 1st floor, and private rooms on the 2nd and 3rd floors named after Kyushu plains and mountains. 2. Lunch from ¥1,760 for taicha; dinner adds a ¥550 side dish and a room charge for private rooms
On the lunch menu, the restaurant’s signature dish, taicha (鯛茶, sea bream over rice with tea), is ¥1,760 (tax included), with a 1.5x size at ¥2,530 and a 2x size at ¥3,410. A set adding a half portion of tempura to taicha starts at ¥2,530; the sashimi set, tempura set and tonkatsu set are each ¥1,430; the 5-course lunch course is ¥4,070; the 9-course special lunch course is ¥5,500; and a kids’ lunch is ¥1,485. For dinner, the official store page notes: from 17:00 a ¥550 (tax included) small side dish is added (included in kaiseki course prices), a private room adds 10% or more of the food and drink total as a room charge, and taicha alone cannot be ordered in the evening. 3. Last lunch seating is 1:40 pm; closed on the 1st and 3rd Sundays
According to the official store page, lunch runs 11:30 am–2:30 pm (last seating 1:40 pm, last order 1:50 pm), and dinner runs 5:00–10:00 pm (last order 9:00 pm). The restaurant is closed on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of each month, and over Obon and New Year. Lunch reservations are taken for 11:30 am, 12:00 pm and 1:00 pm seatings, and same-day seats are also available. Reservations and enquiries: 092-721-0171 (phone reception 10:00 am–10:00 pm). The official site also has a note on food allergies: because the kitchen has no dedicated allergen-free equipment, full allergen removal is not possible, and anyone with a serious allergy is asked to consult the restaurant in advance. 4. 3 minutes on foot from exit 12 of Tenjin Station
The address is 1-14-14 Tenjin, Chuo Ward, Fukuoka City. The official access page gives directions from exit 12 of Tenjin Station on the subway Airport Line, about a 3-minute walk. Seating totals 18 on the 1st floor (a 6-seat counter plus three 4-seat tables), up to 60 on the 2nd floor across its named private rooms (Amakusa 24, Genkai 12, Chikushi 12, Hirado 12 and others, combined), and 4 to 12 seats per private room on the 3rd floor. 5. Before-you-go checklist
- Last lunch seating is 1:40 pm — that is not the closing time, so do not cut it close.
- Closed the 1st and 3rd Sunday of the month, and over Obon and New Year.
- In the evening, taicha alone cannot be ordered; a ¥550 side dish is added.
- Choosing a private room adds 10% or more of the food and drink total.
- Tell the restaurant about any allergy when you book.
A restaurant that lets you order okyuto and gamé-ni as single dishes of local home cooking makes a good conversation piece at a shared table. Check opening days and closures on the official Kappo Yoshida website and its official Instagram before you go.
