If you live in Fukuoka and want a day out for a good meal, Nagasaki Prefecture has a long list of restaurants that Tabelog has picked for its “Hyakumeiten” lists. This guide covers 12 of them: five in Nagasaki City, and one each in Isahaya, Omura and Shimabara, plus four in Sasebo. For each restaurant you get the price range, opening days, how to book, and how to reach it from Fukuoka.
In short
- Tabelog (食べログ) is a Japanese restaurant-review site. “Hyakumeiten” (百名店) means a “Top 100” list for one type of food. Each restaurant below shows the list and year it was chosen for.
- Nagasaki City is about 1 hour 20 minutes from Hakata Station by train, at the fastest, according to JR Kyushu. Sasebo, Isahaya, Omura and Shimabara need a longer trip or a change of train.
- Booking rules differ a lot. Kouzanrou’s restaurant seats take no reservations, pesceco is booking only, and the Omurawan lunch needs a party of 4 or more booked three days ahead.
- Closed days differ too. Several places close on Mondays, and some post a new closing calendar every month, so check each official page before you go.
Checked with official pages on October 11, 2026.
1. What does “Tabelog Hyakumeiten” mean, and how were these 12 chosen?
Tabelog
Tabelog publishes lists of 100 restaurants for each type of food, such as Chinese, steak and teppanyaki, or hamburgers. Some lists cover all of Japan, and others are split into EAST and WEST; Nagasaki is in the WEST lists. Tabelog’s Chinese WEST page describes its list as a score-based top 100 for that genre in western Japan. Each list page also shows the date it was announced.
This guide uses the lists only to pick restaurants. It gives no ranks, scores or review text, and the restaurants are ordered by town, not by Tabelog.
Not every Nagasaki restaurant on the lists is here. The 12 are ones where we could find an official website or an official social account, and where we found no closure notice on those pages. Hours, prices and booking rules come from each restaurant’s own pages (all in Japanese), not from Tabelog.
Note
Most of the official pages we read do not say whether the menu or the staff support English. Two sites have English pages: Hotel Okura JR Huis Ten Bosch (see the Omurawan section), which does not say whether the teppanyaki restaurant serves guests in English, and Kitamikado, whose English page asks guests to send questions about reservations by email in English. If you need help, call ahead.
Tap a name to jump to that restaurant. In the table, “Course rooms only” means the restaurant seats take no reservations, and “Suspended” means castella reservations are paused. Every price in this guide is as printed on the restaurant’s own page.
