In Tokyo, department stores and hotels sell Christmas cakes by pre-order and hand them over on set days. This guide compares six places in the 23 wards: three Mitsukoshi Isetan stores (Isetan Shinjuku, Nihombashi Mitsukoshi and Ginza Mitsukoshi), Tokyu Department Store, Hotel New Otani Tokyo and Hilton Tokyo. It lists when ordering opens and closes, which days you can collect, and how to order without Japanese.
In short
- Ordering is open now at all six: Mitsukoshi Isetan opened October 1 for card members and October 2 for everyone, and Tokyu, Hotel New Otani and Hilton Tokyo opened October 1.
- Most pickups are December 24 and 25. Only Nihombashi Mitsukoshi and Tokyu also offer December 19 and 20, Hilton Tokyo starts December 18, and Hotel New Otani runs December 20 – 25.
- Orders are online. Mitsukoshi Isetan takes orders only on its online store, and Hilton Tokyo takes online orders only, not phone orders. Hotel New Otani’s booking page has an English language switch.
- Mitsukoshi Isetan and Tokyu do not accept changes or cancellations after you order. Hilton Tokyo charges 100% from 7 days before pickup, and Hotel New Otani gives no refund after 3 days before pickup.

1. How do the six places compare?

The earliest deadline is December 8 at 20:00 for the December 19 and 20 pickups at Nihombashi Mitsukoshi; for December 24 and 25, Mitsukoshi Isetan stops at December 15 at 20:00. Prices differ widely by cake, so each store’s section below gives the figures that its page states.

2. How do I order if I do not read Japanese?
Depends on the provider
- Pick one pickup day and one store. Mitsukoshi Isetan hands over only on the date you chose, and Tokyu hands over at the store you select when you order.
- Order online. Mitsukoshi Isetan uses its online store (login or new-member registration buttons are on the page), Tokyu uses the Tokyu Department Store online store, and Hotel New Otani and Hilton Tokyo use TableCheck booking pages. The pages we read are in Japanese; TableCheck’s Hotel New Otani page has an English switch.
- Pay as the store requires. Mitsukoshi Isetan takes payment at the time of ordering. Tokyu lists credit cards, Rakuten Pay, PayPay, d Barai and au PAY, plus convenience-store and Pay-easy payment (until December 8).
- Keep the pickup message. Mitsukoshi Isetan sends an e-mail after 16:00 on the day before pickup with a URL to get your pickup code. Tokyu plans to send a pickup e-mail 4 days before each pickup day, to be printed or shown on your phone.
It is not stated on the pages we read whether staff at any of these places handle cake orders in English.
3. Mitsukoshi Isetan: Isetan Shinjuku, Nihombashi Mitsukoshi and Ginza Mitsukoshi

All three stores take Christmas cake orders only on the Mitsukoshi Isetan Online Store: card members’ early access runs October 1 from 10:00 to 23:59, and general ordering runs from October 2 at 10:00 to December 15 at 20:00. Orders cannot be cancelled, exchanged or changed after you order, and the pickup date cannot be changed. Some items have different ordering periods or pickup dates.
Isetan Shinjuku (伊勢丹新宿店): pickup on December 24 and 25, 10:30 – 19:30, at the special venue on the 6th floor of the Main Building.
Nihombashi Mitsukoshi (日本橋三越本店): pickup on December 19 and 20, 11:00 – 19:00, at the Personal Shopping Desk on the basement 1st floor (orders for these two days close December 8 at 20:00), and on December 24 and 25, 11:00 – 19:00, at the special venue on the 7th floor.
Ginza Mitsukoshi (銀座三越): pickup on December 24 and 25, 11:00 – 19:00, at Ginza Terrace on the 9th floor of the New Building.
Important
The stores say that if you do not come on your pickup day, they may discard the cake because of its shelf life, and Isetan Shinjuku says it will not contact you. The stores also expect heavy crowds from the evening of pickup days.
Cakes are handed over at the store only; delivery is not available for them. Isetan Shinjuku separately takes delivery orders for chicken and deli (orders until December 8, 10:00; delivery December 19 – 22) and frozen and ice cakes (orders until December 7, 10:00; delivery December 18 – 22). At Nihombashi Mitsukoshi on December 24 and 25, holders of a Mitsukoshi card (エムアイカード) can use a priority lane.
Getting there: Isetan Shinjuku is 30 seconds to 3 minutes on foot from the ticket gates of Shinjuku-sanchome Station, depending on the gate. Nihombashi Mitsukoshi is 1 minute from Mitsukoshimae Station (Ginza Line and Hanzomon Line). Ginza Mitsukoshi is 1 minute from the Yonchome crossing gate at Ginza Station. 4. Tokyu Department Store (東急百貨店)
Depends on the provider
Tokyu takes store-pickup cake orders from October 1 at 0:00 to December 16 at 15:00, with orders for December 19 and 20 pickups closing December 13 at 15:00. Pickup days are December 19, 20, 24 and 25; the days and times you can choose depend on the item, and you collect at the store you picked when ordering.

Pickup stores include Shibuya Tokyu Food Show, Shibuya Hikarie ShinQs, Shibuya Scramble Square (Tokyu Food Show Edge), Futako-tamagawa, Kichijoji, Machida Tokyu Twins, Tama Plaza, Hiyoshi, Aobadai and Sapporo. The page lists ten cakes from ¥4,860 to ¥7,992 (tax included) in its store-pickup recommendations. A ¥300 coupon applies when you buy ¥6,000 or more from the Christmas cake and hors d’oeuvre pages. Changes and cancellations after ordering are not accepted.
Shibuya Tokyu Food Show is directly connected to Shibuya Station on the Keio Inokashira Line (basement 1st floor of Shibuya Mark City). The Shibuya Mark City car park is open 24 hours, free for the first hour with purchases of ¥3,000 or more, then ¥400 per 30 minutes.
5. Hotel New Otani Tokyo (ホテルニューオータニ（東京）)

Hotel New Otani Tokyo’s Patisserie SATSUKI takes Christmas cake orders from October 1 until 3 days before your pickup date, and hands cakes over from December 20 to 25, 11:00 – 21:00. The Super Christmas Tower and the party sets must be booked 5 days before pickup, by 17:00.

On December 20 and 21, cakes are handed over in the Oriduru Sho no Ma (おり鶴 翔の間) room on the arcade floor of the Main building; on December 22 – 25 they are handed over in the edoROOM (宴会場階) on the banquet floor of the Main. The drive-through cannot be used from December 20 to 25. The hotel expects crowds, so allow extra time.
Prices (tax included): the New Extra Super Amaou Shortcake is ¥23,760 (about 18 cm, for 6 to 8 people); the New Super Amaou Shortcake is ¥15,660 (size 6, about 18 cm) or ¥18,900 (size 7, about 21 cm); the Amaou Fromage Noël is ¥10,800; the Super Opera Légère is ¥21,600 (for 2 to 4 people); and the top Extra Super Double Shortcake is ¥35,000. The Super Christmas Tower is ¥97,200 (for about 30 people). Web bookings made by November 15 receive a set of three original postcards.
The booking is a TableCheck page with a language switch that includes English. The page says cancellations are accepted until 3 days before pickup and that later cancellations are not refunded. For questions, call Patisserie SATSUKI directly at 03-3221-7252; phone inquiries are answered from 11:00. 6. Hilton Tokyo (ヒルトン東京)

Hilton Tokyo takes online reservations from October 1 to December 21 and hands cakes over from December 18 to 25, 11:00 – 19:00, at a special counter on the hotel’s 1st floor; you must reserve online, and phone reservations are not accepted. Reservations close at 24:00 four days before pickup.

The theme is “Angels Descending on Christmas Eve”. Plume de Champagne (プリュム・ド・シャンパーニュ) is ¥10,500, and Aureole d’Ange (オレオール・ダンジュ) and Le Cadeau de l’Ange (ル・カドー・ドゥ・ランジュ) are ¥9,500 each; each of these three is limited to 60 and serves 6 to 8 people. The Elle d’Ange shortcake comes in a small size (S, 2 to 3 people) at ¥4,500 and a large size (L, 4 to 6 people) at ¥6,700. Prices include tax.
Important
Cancellations made after 24:00 seven days before pickup are charged at 100%. To change the date, cancel the booking yourself on the website and book again; phone changes are not accepted. The hotel does not accept message plates or cutlery requests.

7. How do I choose?
- Want to pick up on December 19 or 20: Nihombashi Mitsukoshi (order by December 8, 20:00) or Tokyu (order by December 13, 15:00).
- Want to pick up on December 24 or 25: any of the Mitsukoshi Isetan stores or Tokyu. Hilton Tokyo (from December 18) and Hotel New Otani Tokyo (from December 20) also include these days.
- Want a booking page with an English switch: Hotel New Otani Tokyo (TableCheck).
- Worried you might miss your pickup day: Mitsukoshi Isetan hands over only on the date you chose, and Hotel New Otani and Hilton Tokyo offer a range of days.
- Takashimaya’s store-pickup cake reservations are listed as starting on October 7 and October 15, 2026.
Common questions
Can I change my pickup date after ordering?
Mitsukoshi Isetan says the pickup date cannot be changed after the order. At Hilton Tokyo, cancel the booking on the website and book again for the new date; fees apply from 7 days before pickup. Tokyu says changes and cancellations after ordering are not accepted.
Can I order by phone?
Mitsukoshi Isetan takes orders only on its online store, and Hilton Tokyo says it does not accept phone reservations. Hotel New Otani Tokyo lists a phone number (03-3221-7252) for questions and has an online booking page.
What if I cannot collect the cake?
Mitsukoshi Isetan may discard the cake if you do not come on the pickup day, because of its shelf life, and does not contact you.
