Monjayaki (もんじゃ焼き, often called monja) is a runny savory batter that you cook on a hot plate at your table. In Tokyo’s Chuo Ward, the Nishinaka-dori shopping street (西仲通り商店街) in Tsukishima has many monjayaki restaurants. The street is called Monja Street (もんじゃストリート). The Tsukishima Monja Association (月島もんじゃ振興会協同組合) lists 48 member restaurants on its website (checked October 5, 2026). This guide compares six of them on opening hours, distance from the station, payment, smoking and booking.
In short
- Temari, Kataoka and Kazuki are each about a 1-minute walk from an exit of Tsukishima Station. Kondou Honten is 3 minutes from Exit 10, and Monkichi Honten is 5 minutes from Exit 7.
- Most of the six open at 17:00 on weekdays. Monkichi Honten and Daruma Ikina Mise open at 11:00 on weekdays. Temari is closed on Mondays.

1. How do I get to Monja Street?
Tsukishima Monja Association
Take Tokyo Metro Yurakucho Line or Toei Oedo Line to Tsukishima Station (月島駅). Nishinaka-dori shopping street begins right outside Exit 7. From Kachidoki Station (勝どき駅) on the Toei Oedo Line, the association gives a walk of about 7 minutes.
If you drive, the association lists routes from the Ginza or Shintomicho exits of the Metropolitan Expressway Inner Circle Route. All six store pages say there are coin parking lots nearby and do not list a parking lot of their own.
The association’s phone line is 03-3532-1990 (11:00–20:00). It says the line can be busy at times, and you may need to call again later.
2. How do I book a table?
Depends on the restaurant
All six store pages link to Web booking on Monnyan Club (monnyan.com), which is in Japanese. Booking works like this, based on Kataoka’s page:

- Choose the date and the number of guests. The page shows the times you can book (予約可能時間).

- Enter your contact details. The page we read does not show the full form, so follow the screen.

9. What if I have never cooked monjayaki?
Tsukishima Monja Association
The association’s “how to cook” page says staff will cook it neatly for you, so first-time visitors can enjoy it. The basic steps on that page are: fry the toppings on an oiled hot plate, shape them into a ring (a “levee”), pour the batter into the middle, mix it, then spread it out and eat it as it browns. The page says cabbage is cut into coarse strips for Tsukishima monja.
Important
Monjayaki, okonomiyaki and yakisoba are made with wheat flour. The association says people with a wheat allergy cannot eat them, that it does not publish ingredient tables, and that it may not be able to help with severe allergies. Tell the restaurant about any food allergy when you book.
